The 9' 8WT 4 piece fly rod is a nice middle ground rod. At the price point it's really tough to beat in the market. The details are tight, and action is perfect to meet 90% of 8WT fishing activities and it won't break the bank. It comes with a nice rod tube and rod sock. Does it feel like a new crazy American Made high end rod, no. Will it still catch fish, absolutely!
In fact we caught a dozen or so bones and 8 permit in one day on it in Belize this year. We had higher end stiffer faster more sexy American Made rods with us, but this one was like a well worn hoodie and we kept going back to it. It's just right to make perfect presentation to spooky bones in super skinny gin clear water.
It's light without being too light. It's fast without being too fast. It's handles 8 and 9 WT lines equally well. It turns over big files with ease and is as accurate as you could hope for. But frankly it doesn't do any of those things without someone's hand attached to it. So honestly it's not the rod, it's you that does the casting, if you suck it will suck, if you are awesome, it will be awesome.
After testing many different models we find it to be the perfect middle ground to meet even demanding caster's needs and a nice ballance between durability and lightness and speed.
The machined and anodized aluminum reel seat is super durable, high quality and similar to components on rods that cost three times what this one does. The quality of the cork is great without being break the bank amazing. The guides hold up nicely, and the wraps are neat and tidy. It's no frills, but it's solid and will last a lifetime.
If you are looking for a rod that other companies would charge three times as much for and want to save some bucks buying one without a fancy name on it. This is it. It's built in the same high quality factory that most of the big name imported rods come from. Look around, you'll find very similar rods out there from MANY different brands. All the decent ones pretty much come from the same place. Honestly, there is no need to pay extra. Keep it simple.
